Well, kind of by Jake Kelly. Jake did all the work and did the video but as he does not speak in said video, it fell to his long-suffering editor to put together some text to fill this part of the page. The real stuff you want is "get-able" by hitting the button to the left of this text and checking out the video.
Here is the short version. Fishman has been putting out a bunch of very good "sound hole" pickups for acoustic guitars for a long time. And in the past year they really stepped that up. The primary change is pickups with very different sonic characters. Earlier in the year, Jake did a review of a couple of different models in Fishman's Rare Earth line of sound hole pickups which you can get to by hitting button #2. (Remember, hit the button once to bring up the video and hit the button again to make it go away.)
Where the goal of the Rare Earth series is to get as accurate a representation as possible of the natural sound of the acoustic guitar, the Black Stack has no such goal. You can buy an acoustic guitar with a magnetic, electric guitar style pickup in it. And it has a sound all it's own. Not really electric and not really acoustic. The Black Stack is a way for anyone--even players who have really high end pickups already installed in their guitars-- to get that unique sound in addition to what they already have. Kind of a cool idea. Now go check out the video.
